Remarks

Intergrades in New Hampshire with C. badia coelebs, a boreal subspecies with more typical forewing maculation for a Catocala, very unlike the subdued brown coloration with indistinct lines of C. badia badia. The nominate subspecies is restricted to southern New England and has one of the smallest native ranges of any moth found on Block Island.
