Sex Differences

Wing shape moderately sexually dimorphic, with forewing with more falcate tip and hindwing more pointed in female; female with paler ground color. Some individuals seem intermediate in these characters and are difficult to sex.

Life History

Flies mainly in July on Block Island, with records as late as mid-September. In this survey, the earliest adult record of the species was on 1 July (2019), but Mark Mello recorded the species on Block Island 5 June 1999. Overwinters as a caterpillar; immatures are most often seen as final instars shortly before and during the flight season.
