Life History

This species is common and widespread on Block Island despite all of its known host plants being rare on the island. The E.H. Strickland Museum site suggests based on occurrence data that the species may feed on Amelanchier; this association would help to explain the distribution of the species on Block Island. The two oak trees at SR may explain its particular abundance at that site. While the 36 sightings of the species at AH from early June to late September do not reveal any seasonal trend, the 64 at SR and 47 at CHs indicate that the species is bivoltine locally. Data on iNaturalist from the region support this finding, with abundance peaking in June and again in August and September in the Northeast and southern Canada.
