Life History

Bivoltine on Block Island. Whether the second generation is always larger than the first locally is not certain due to limited data coverage for late August and early- to mid-September. In 2018 and 2019, I was not on Block Island after the nights of 17 August and 16 August, respectively, except for three weekends (28–29 September and 19–20 October 2018 and 20–21 September 2019) in the fall. In 2020, I recorded eight individuals at AH from 22 to 27 August and then left the island until 21 September. In 2021, after seeing only a handful of individuals during the typical summer flight, I recorded 27 from 7 to 18 September and two more a week later. Block Island is at the southern edge of the range of this species; sightings in southern New England on iNaturalist peak in June and August in a limited sample size.
