Identification

The two species of Neotelphusa found in North America, both common on Block Island, may be distinguished based on the following differences in forewing characters: antemedial light band often weakly contrasting with neighboring regions only in the underscribed species; and antemedial band typically narrower, postmedial light band broader, and raised scale tufts with more orange, in praefixa than in the undescribed species. On Block Island, praefixa flies earlier than the undescribed species, though their flight periods overlap.
